Dr. Valerie Belu

Valerie Belu researches the past, present, and future of democracy.

Her PhD thesis developed and tested an original theory of the emergence of liberal representative democracy in Europe.

She has now moved into the field of AI governance to understand how we can future-proof our democratic systems in the age of AI.

Valerie has a DPhil, MPhil, and BA from the University of Oxford. She has taught at the European Institute at the London School of Economics, as well as at St. Hilda's College at the University of Oxford. Her research has been published in the BJPIR, Parliamentary Affairs, and the Political Quarterly.
